INTERVIEW: Trendsetters Elite

I want to introduce to the world Trendsetters Elite a dope brand based in the midwest that has been worn by icons like Pharrell and recently featured at  Krispy's Sneaker Convention in Detroit. This is truly an up and coming brand that is worth a second look. Read below as we take a dive to go deeper behind the brand.

What was your inspiration for this season's designs??
I always just kept my ear to the streets so I was inspired by other street signs, logo, and unique shading techniques. For instance our "Best Kept Secret" shirt is a small showcase of multiple aspects of street wear and a play on words by implying that our brand is the "best kept secret"

How did you get the name "Trendsetters Elite"??
We came up with the name based on the mindset of the brand that has the perspective of being confident and exudes that through how they live. By combining the word "trendsetter" a person who is at the forefront of fashion and "elite" as in someone who is the best of the best, this is what we feel our brand exemplifies.

What message is your brand trying to give or portray??
That people should exude confidence and live their life in that. We want our brand to help showcase the style and hidden talent of the mid-west.

What can we expect in future seasons??
We are currently working on more pictorial designs but, at the same time staying consistent with our roots through our unique use of shading and our focus on solid conceptual designs. Right now we are waiting on a few more designs to come in that will be used for new hats, hoodies, and crewnecks for the fall season. Every week we are constantly coming up with new designs so that we can churn out new apparel.

What got you interested in the fashion game??
I'm from Brooklyn, New York so I have been able to see how dress can showcase the personality of a person. I am from a  family of artists so I was able to naturally draw and I became self-taught graphic designer by studying how-to videos and learning from friends who went to design school.I just always had that self-drive to educate my self to create something better.

What is one current trend that you want to see squashed??
I would like to see less influence on rap lyrics that become plastered on shirts. That is becoming way too played out I could see how trying to do a collab with a major artist is profitable no doubt and that is cool when one brand partners with a specific artist such as A$AP but, when multiple brands try to partner with the same artist you can see how it would become diluted.Street wear started in the streets through the grass roots movement and  I just want to see street wear come back to its roots and these brands begin to give back to community.

What made you start "Trendsetters Elite"??
I wanted to showcase that the midwest also had something to offer, we have our own identity not portrayed through some of the brands from the coasts, which have a total different style because trends tend to vary from region to region, I initially got started when I met a friend of mine in California who was an intern for Russell Simmons. After seeing her drive and ability to make a pair of jeans from scratch, I knew I could make my goal a reality. I was naturally talented in graphic design and I had a strong self-motivation so by then I was already on my way.

Any accessories coming up??
We are planning to stick to our current apparel line but, as we continue to expand the brand and grow our resources I want to release a varsity jacket and then eventually a series of duffel bags. So look out for those in the future!!

How did you come up with the logo??
Our original logo had wings with more of an aviator style we used it on some of our shirts in the past but, since then it has changed to ensure that it was more recognizable, simple, but functional at the same time.

How have you seen the Mid-western fashion scene come up over the years??
I have seen actually seen a revival of fashion in the mid west with the revolution of more brands in Michigan as Detroit begins to bring back the vintage wear. We are looking to do more collabs with "RePhresh Vintage" which is a brand in Detroit that is focused bringing vintage clothing to the forefront of fashion. There has definitely been a noticeable expansion in the mid west from basic streetwear fashion with elementary type designs on Hanes t-shirt to almost luxury fashion with complex designs and stitching being put on quality ring-spun shirts that have unique packaging.
