INTERVIEW: TMHS Clothing

If you haven't heard of the up and coming brand TMHS clothing you are missing out. The brand has a unique style that is making headway in fashion game. Their current summer collection features a variety of tanks along with shorts and hats as well. Check out the interview below with founder and CEO Will Hankerson to get closer look at this unique label.

What was your inspiration for this seasons designs?
I was walking through a fabric store in LA one day and I saw the fabric in the back of the store and it just spoke to me. The fabric just seemed to flow well and clicked with that summertime vibes.

What does TMHS stand for?
TMHS stands for "The Mr.Hankerson Show"

What's the message your brand is trying to give or portray?
Our brand pretty much wants people to do their own thing, be themselves and stay original because originality always works, people respect originality. We make clothing that allows people to step up their fashion game and finally dress maturely while being stylish and comfortable.

What can we expect in the future seasons?
We will have more fun with the next collection, with unique trendsetting designs that will test the waters of the current fashion world and mindset. You can expect to see some exciting stuff in our Fall collection.

What got you interested in the fashion game?
I have always loved fashion and looked up to pioneers in fashion like Eddie Bauer, Tommy Hilfiger and Brooks Brothers. It really started in 5th grade when I began to really like Chucks, and classy shirts and shorts. Really anything that I saw as timeless and classic.

What current trends do you want to see squashed??
I really want to see the SnapBack and crewneck trend squashed ASAP. I'm tired of people calling that fashion and these people that think they can screen-print a couple of shirts or design a SnapBack and then just launch an entire clothing line on a $500 budget. It's takes more time and effort than that to have something really worth while.

Any accessories coming up??
We have a bunch of stuff we're looking into creating...backpacks, lighters, etc. Some stuff thats not your average accessory, but something that'll make you say, "damn, I really could use this!"

How did you come up with the logo??
I wanted the logo to represent me....a classy character with a playful style..

How have you seen the Cali fashion seen come up over the years??
Cali fashion has changed a lot since I was a kid. I was a huge fan of Tommy Hilfiger growing up, so the preppy look was more of my style. I rocked Cross-Colors like your average Cali kid of the 90's. It was fun then and thats what I'm trying to incorporate into my brand. Right now there doesn't seem to be any real growth. The looks are crazy and they look cool. But after a while, it gets played out.  Its all just pop-up, cookie cutter type brands that are doing it because of the moment or they think it's fun not because they are invested in it or even really love fashion. They are looking to get big quick and not focused on leaving a legacy.
